well...i wouldn't say it's like...cool or anything to have straight hair...but it just depends on the personality of the person who uses the straightner. i have straightish hair...but i use a straightner sometimes just cuz i like the iffect it gives my hair...and becuz it stays that way all day...i don't have to brush it 24/7 to keep it the way i want it.

i've got thick thick curly hair but im straightening it as i type. for me, its just easier to conotrl and do different hairstyles thatn just leaving it of sticking it up in a bun/ponytail (which is what i usually do when my hairs curly)
