You might try a thick creme pomade or a spiking glue (Don't use regular glue, buy the actual hair product). If your hair is thin then you'll be fighting an uphill battle, even if straight hair, but it's well within your reach.

If all else fails, blow dry your hair straight after a shower, spray it with Aqua Net 3 and then go from section to section pulling your hair up straight and blow drying it. It will take a lot more time then regular spiking, but it will work pretty much regardless of your hair.
